Maria McAteer slow release

I’m currently working on a slow release of singer Maria McAteer through singles on CD Baby. What I mean by slow release is that we will release the album one song at a time instead of putting it all out in one go. It all ties together with videos on YouTube as well. So far two songs have been released for purchase and three videos are up on YouTube.

Brighton sings Justin Bieber’s “Baby”!

Or rather, Brighton mimes to Maria McAteer’s voice and my piano playing. We felt it was time to do a cover and played around a bit with Justin Bieber’s song “Baby”. What we came up with is quite different from the original. So, what to do for a video. Well, we wet down to the Meeting Place and asked people passing by if they’d like to mime a phrase from the song. They were wonderful. All different sorts agreed to do it. 3 hours later we had the fifty lines and just needed to add them together and sync them to the track. A few more hours (the rest of the night actually) was spent pasting in and time stretching clips and we had something. It’s up on YouTube, have a look and a listen!

Flamencophone on jazzradio.com

We got this mail:

To Nybakat:

We added one of your tracks to JAZZRADIO.com. “Flamencophone” is playing on our Straight-Ahead channel. Check it out at www.jazzradio.com.

So now I’ll have to listen to this station for hours just to hear my own song being played. Actually, I’m really pleased about this. This tune is dedicated to my flamenco dancing grandmother Barbro and even though I know she would say that it’s not really flamenco I’m sure she’d be really happy too.

Her Father’s Daughter

If you havent heard Maria McAteer’s band “Her Father’s Daughter” yet you’re in for a treat. It’s a tribute to her father, Trinidadian saxophonist/composer Al Timothy, mostly famous for writing Shirley Basseys mega hit “Kiss Me Honey Honey Kiss Me”. Maria discovered that she actually had some music manuscripts that he never published. We recorded them and we’ve also done gigs in Brighton with the band. The response has been amazing with the audience chanting along with his raunchy lyrics of “Don’t Touch Me Nylons!”.

Great review of The Little Orchestra

I just found this review on a Belgian blog. I don’t read french but there’s a link to google translate on the site. I love Rosie Staf’s music and it was a true pleasure to record this with her. Apart from from Rosie Staf as a singer and composer, I play clarinet and accordion, Henrik Hallberg guitar, Cecilia Linné cello, Stefan Stenberg double bass, Olof Olson mallets and Johan Käck drums.
